JACL/OCA Leadership Summit 2017
The annual JACL (Japanese American Citizenship League)/OCA Leadership Summit will be held from Saturday, April 15 – Tuesday, April 18, 2017. The 3-night, 3-day intensive civil rights and advocacy seminar is designed to train 15 OCA and 15 JACL members in foundational and advanced advocacy strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with and learn from members of Congress, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Administration officials, government agencies, as well as partner organizations in the Washington, DC social justice community.
Past leadership conferences have presented opportunities to meet community champions such as Senator Daniel Inouye (HI), Senator Mazie Hirono (HI), Representative Mike Honda (CA), Representative David Wu (OR), former Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, EEOC Commissioner Stuart Ishimaru, among many others.
This year, OCA will cover the costs of rooms and travel up to $400 or with Southwest vouchers. OCA participants must pay $150 which will cover breakfast, lunch, and program expenses.
Applications are open from November 3, 2016 – January 24, 2017, and we encourage OCA chapter leaders to nominate members to apply. Applicants will be notified of whether or not they have been accepted into the summit by email on January 26, 2017.
